Time for your Rodeo geography lesson…
Seattle band’s “Cowboys in Montana” rides back to Europe for
German compilation CD

Brent Amaker and the Rodeo’s song, Cowboys in Montana, has already had quite a life. It’s been the backbone of the Rodeo’s wild live shows across the US, Canada, and Europe. It also appeared on the band’s second album, Howdy Do (2008, Gravewax Records).

Now
Cowboys… is going back to Europe to appear on “Ride the Pale Horse,” a compilation of blood-drenched country music on German label Wolverine Records. Copies can be ordered online through Interpunk. “Ride the Pale Horse” is available online now and the CD will be released in stores throughout Europe and the UK on Friday, May 8.

Cowboys in Montana
, with odd lyrics like “Wet your whistle in El Paso/Where tequila flows like gin/They make cowboys in Montana/But in Texas they make men,” has been a source of confusion for Rodeo fans all over the world.

“This song is right at home on an international compilation,” says songwriter Brent Amaker. “A lot of people think the lyrics to Cowboys in Montana were written in English, translated into Japanese, then translated back into English by a computer. Interesting theory, but it’s just not true. I say what I mean and I know what I’m talking about.”

Fair enough, Mr. Amaker!

Brent Amaker and the Rodeo have just finished recording their third full-length album and are planning US and European tours in 2009.
