Monday, our only day off. Trouble comes in three's?

Today is Monday, our only day off of the entire tour. We are only a few days into the trip, but as it turns out the day off was well planned. We spent the first three days doing our biggest drives and getting little sleep. The combination of sleep deprivation and tour acclimation has left us exhausted. The night of sleep in Santa Cruz was well deserved. I woke up and looked out the window of my hotel bathroom and saw a lemon tree. It took me back for a second. I didn't realize we had actually traveled far enough south for lemon trees. I almost stole a few and squeezed out some fresh lemonade.

Shortly after packing up the van, Sugar realized that he had lost his hand cuffs while drinking at the Red Room in Santa Cruz. It's not like Sugar to lose his handcuffs and it's troubling to think someone else might have access to one of the items from his utility belt. The daily mission quickly changed from getting the hell out of town, to locating the missing cuffs.

We went to the club which was locked up and closed for the day. Ben started banging on the door and found a nice spanish speaking gentleman who was doing some cleaning. It seemed like this might be our big break since Ben speaks about 23 words of spanish. Ben went to work, but came up empty handed.


No cuffs. What the hell? I'm pretty sure Sugar's balls are sucking back up inside his body right now. We'll be hitting every pawn shop in California looking for a replacement.

And as if that isn't bad enough, Ben broke his brand new dolly.

They say trouble comes in three's. I'm on the look out for one more disaster today. After that, I'm counting on smooth sailing.

Heading into San Luis Obispo now for an evening of R&R. Wish us luck.
